Crowe and Dunlevy In The Courtroom and Boardroom Gavel

Victory for Crowe & Dunlevy Client

The U.S. Supreme Court affirms victory for Epworth Villa, a client of Crowe & Dunlevy, in an employment law case.

Epworth Villa was sued by a  former employee for racial discrimination and retaliation under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act. In October 2006, Judge Stephen Friot of the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma granted summary judgment to Epworth Villa on the employee's claims.

Last August, the 10th Circuit affirmed Judge Friot's ruling that the employee's claims should be dismissed. The employee appealed the case to the U.S. Supreme Court arguing that there was a split in the circuit courts of appeal on the evidentiary standard used by the 10th Circuit to uphold the dismissal of the case.

On March 2, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to entertain this argument and denied the employee's petition for writ of certiorari.

Crowe & Dunlevy Attorneys Speak at Clean Air Forum

Historically, Oklahoma County has met federal air quality requirements; however, this is expected to change in 2009. If Oklahoma County becomes a "non-attainment area" that does not meet federal regulations, businesses and individuals throughout Central Oklahoma could face changes to every day practices.

The Central Oklahoma Regional Advocacy Alliance (CORAA) and the Greater Oklahoma City Chamber hosted a discussion on how local businesses would be impacted by a non-attainment designation. Speakers at the forum included three of Crowe & Dunlevy's environmental law attorneys: Miles Tolbert, LeAnne Burnett and Mark Walker.
